Ground strength estimation demonstration using a drone and a sphere
Tohoku University is developing a method to estimate ground strength by dropping a sphere equipped with an accelerometer from a drone onto the ground surface and estimating ground strength from the impact acceleration at the time of collision. The photo shows a sphere being dropped from a drone at Osaki Sanbongi Field. On the day of the demonstration, we prepared two test grounds with different ground strengths and showed the demonstration that the drone dropped the sphere to the ground surface to the. Afterwards, the difference in impact acceleration due to the difference in ground strength was displayed on a monitor so that the media can confirm the performance of the device.
