Tohoku University conducted a demonstration of ground strength estimation and moving using bucket excavation.
Tohoku University is developing a method to estimate ground strength from the resistive force acting on the bucket and blade of a hydraulic excavator. The photo shows a mini shovel of excavating the ground, estimating the ground strength and moving based on its strength at Osaki, Sanbongi field. On the day of demonstration, we showed the media how the mini shovel excavates the ground, estimated the ground strength and moves to its goal while avoiding soft ground. The estimated ground strength is displayed in color on the monitor, allowing visitors to see the results at a glance.
